Mr Rogers.

Some thoughts on Mr Rogers.

I have seen both Mr Rogers movies, the documentary and the Tom Hanks movie. This is a big deal considering I only see 2-3 movies per year.

I have listened to all the episodes of the podcast Finding Fred. This is not as big of a deal considering I listen to 2-3 podcasts per day.

I have a lot of thoughts about Mr Rogers but this is my primary thought; Orthodoxy leads to simple Orthopraxy. In other words right thinking leads to right practice or right living. Although orthodoxy doesn’t have to pertain to thoughts about God it often does.

Fred Rogers had a deep, profound and accurate (right) view of God and it led to incredibly simple, profound right living.

Albert Einstein said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

Fred Rogers understood God and love and life well enough to live it and explain it simply.

There exists today a completely reasonable skepticism about religion, and Christianity and in particular evangelicals. I share this disappointment and disillusionment. I believe that much of the horrific, dreadful practices of those who claim to represent Christ is based on an improper and inaccurate view of God.

I talk about my purpose in life in a number of ways. One of those is that I am passionate about the bridge from orthodoxy to orthopraxy. I am passionate about helping people to think rightly about God, trusting that this will lead to right living. I know it is oversimplified but I am hopeful that the work I do could be like Mr Rogers, or maybe the work I do or the life I live could create more Mr Rogers’.

Maybe we can be and create people who think rightly about God and therefore live rightly.
